Haiku My Heart: Mother's Day Blooms

oldest son's present
to his mom, who’s grateful for
love expressed with blooms

Actually, this is one of his gifts;
the others were
the one-on-one visit
with him
and... lunch at Panera's.
I am looking forward to
spending time with my
other children on Sunday.

Haiku My Heart: Pottery

Conceivably we
know not the material
of Christ’s cup, perhaps…?
The pottery shown here

Haiku My Heart: God's Canvas

 God's canvas,
brilliant array of colors,
blows away Man's hues.
 pondering the sky
 this past week,

 opened my eyes
to all the lovely pastels
not available
to any earthly artist's
palette.

All these images were shot within
a two minute range from different angles
the evening sky.

ABC Wednesday: H is for Holiness

A friend from church recommended
Thirty-Day Devotions for the Holy Souls by Susan Tassone

to our group that is meeting Sunday mornings for a six-week period.
I immediately ordered it online, and boy, am I glad that I did.
Even though the book is not in sync with the season of Lent,
I felt that Day 25’s devotion about fasting
is an excellent message for all of us who are observing Lent.

What follows are Tassone’s words verbatim-

“We are all called to fast.
However, not all are called to fast in the same way.
We should seek God, ask His direction,
and then follow the impulses we sense coming from Him:
Fast from bitterness- feast on forgiveness.
Fast from self-concern- feast on compassion for others.
Fast from personal anxiety- feast on eternal truth.
Fast from anger- feast on patience.
Fast from words that destroy- feast on words that build.
Fast from discontent- feast on gratitude.
Fast from discouragement- feast on hope.”

I invite you to try
feasting on Susan Tassone’s words
during your Lenten journey.
I know that I intend to do that
with hope of growing in holiness.

Postcards from Paradise:

The bells chime,
sounding Jesus’ invitation
to enter His abode and spend some quiet time
with Him.  Who can turn away from that summons?
Is there anything more important than time spent with our
Lord?  Would not time spent here provide grace enough
to make all actions weave together more effortlessly?
Of course, one does not need to enter a church to meet with
Jesus, but the environs of a church provides us a place built
with the intentionality of being a haven for prayer.
 Why not answer the call
the next time
you hear
the bells?

Random 5 Friday: Winter

1. I am weary of subzero temperatures,
arctic winds and high mounds of snow.

2. But joyfully, I am not suffering depression nor cabin fever!

3. I had the pleasure of taking care of my two sweethearts,
Myah and Leannah, for a short time yesterday.
I am pleased that my granddaughter
has trust in my being able to handle that responsibility.

4. Yesterday I received a book that I’d ordered;
it’s called Thirty-Day Devotions for the Holy Souls by Susan Tassone.
I started reading and praying it this morning.

5. We had a goodly number of ladies present
at our Bible Study this week.  Weather caused cancellations for us in January.
We rejoiced that we finally got to meet.
But that was not true for our Women at the Well group.
It meets at night
and causes concerns for the safety of us all,
which is very important.

for Haiku My Heart-

Wintry weather brings
tribulations of all sorts,
mounds of snow, iced streets.

Mornings with Mary: Kissing the Face of God

Imagine such an awesome kiss,
being pressed on the face of our Savior!
What was Mary thinking as she
kissed and cuddled this Babe in her arms?
Would fear have entered into her mind,
or was there only the sheer delight
in holding her Divine Child?
We know that she pondered
all that the angel Gabriel announced to her
because the Bible tells us that.
But, in this moment,
did she just give thanks that
Jesus had arrived intact
with no harm done on their long journey
to Bethlehem?
I hope that she was only giving thanks,
unaware of all the trials
she would suffer as the Mother of God.

Go here for how Weistling was inspired
to paint this exquisite art.

we come to you with our prayers,
