Haiku My Heart: Crewel Work

stitched flowers, crewel work
fosters warm memories of
Momma, the artiste

This lovely piece hangs

in my living room.

When my hubby and I gave the kit
to my multi-talented momma,
I had never heard of crewel work.
But I knew that my mother
could do anything she set
her mind to do.
So I wasn't surprised that
this lovely and precious
work came to be.

with abundant pleasure,

Mornings with Mary: Neighbors

The image of Our Lady of Perpetual Help is from
Our Lady of Perpetual Help,
lending hope to orphans
through the faith and work
of Father Andre
and countless others.

On Sunday afternoon at St. Mary's parish hall
was a reception for Father Andre.  Many
parishioners attended it to listen
to a presentation by Father and
Tony Costello, a local parishioner
and architect/professor at Ball State University.
The person who organized the whole thing
is
a lady who gives her all
to her family,
parish, community
and our neighbors in Haiti.
Becky has organized
many different fund raisers
for Father Andre's orphanage in Haiti.
Her latest fund raiser is a series
of rummage sales
with all the proceeds
going to the orphanage.

Behind Father are drawings for a village
setting for residences for the orphans.
Orphanages in the past were
cold, sterile institutions.
Father and Tony want the children
to live in a home atmosphere.
In addition, there are plans
for a clinic and a school.
In the works is a website
to make donating to the orphanage
more accessible.  I will pray
that it will be completed soon.

Haiku My Heart: Leaving the Nest

day before leaving,
was Momma giving advice
to each baby bird?

getting set
time to leave the nest
time to fly!

Baby robins grow up so fast.
I watched them go from bare bodies
to fluffy feathers in just over a week.
And off they went sometime yesterday.
Unfortunately I had neither the time
or ability to sit at my window
long enough

to capture their leaving,
but I know they did
because their nest is empty today.
I wish them a good life.

Mornings with Mary: Faith

Dearest Mother Mary,
I desire faith,

faith as deep as the one
my kitty Jax has in me.
As neatly tied up
and ever available
as I picture yours was
when the angel Gabriel
announced your role
in the birth of Our Lord.
Help me to have the vision
of the path that leads
to your Son
with clarity and steadfast faith.
Amen

Macro Monday 2: Baby Robins

 hungry one?
the nest seems crowded
Mom still feeds?

I had problems sighting
the babies today
because with feathers
they are better
camouflaged.
I imagined that soon
they'd leave the nest.
Then I googled and found this video.
So soon they will be gone.

Postcards from Paradise: Dedication

 a dedication
to the mem'ry of my mom
from my hubs and me

After Mass a few weeks ago,
my former partner teacher
told me that she has been
repairing our song books
by taping the covers to the insides
of the well-worn books.
She had run across a book
with my dedication in it.
(on the chapel side where I
normally sit.)
In the ten years or more
that I've sat there,
I had not run across
this particular hymnal,
and consequently,
I'd forgotten about it.
 (Our parish members had
helped with the big outlay
of money for the new books
by sponsoring a dedication slip.)
So I opened and closed books
for the hope
that I'd spot it.
Not successful that week.
But, of course, since I posted
it, you can see I was finally
fruitful in my seeking.
I chose this photo with the hope
that this ''postcard'
might be from Paradise!

Haiku My Heart: Momma Robin and Her Babies

Since I spotted the nest
four days ago,
I've been taking daily photos
of the mother robin
and her babies.

watchful at all times,
seeking those who'd do mischief
to her precious babes

can't you see
how hungry I am?
please, me first!

feed me first
come on, Momma, please
I'm hungry!

Some readers might wonder why
I featured the robins on this blog
instead of my other blog.
I feel the way that I think
those who link with Rebecca's memes feel,
that all life is sacred.

Mornings with Mary: Blessing

 I received a while ago
this most perfect shrine
created by Hettienne @
http://hergracedevata.blogspot.com/
Her talent is evident as an artiste,
much like others
who contribute to Mornings with Mary.
And maybe I should leave it like that,
but I long to repay Hettienne
with something other than my photos.
So, here is my effort, Hettienne,
with heartfelt thanks.

May the Sacred Heart of Jesus
and the Immaculate Heart of Mary
bring blessings to you each day.

And with the tumultuous events

of recent times, I
pray for all those
who have been pummeled
with the loss of so many
in Arizona, other states, in Canada
and elsewhere in our world.

Haiku My Heart: Courage

heavy are our hearts
with the sacrifice of men
who showed such courage!

The holiday
we just celebrated
was tinged
with a plaintive  air
considering the loss of
those elite firefighters
who gave their all
in battling the awful fires
in Arizona.

May Mary, the mother
of us all and Her Son
bring solace to
the families.
